Go West, Young Kalmia!

PS1 program director/ICPC member & workshop instructor Kalmia Strong reports:
I attended and presented at the biennial Mid America Print Council conference "Go West: A Collaborative Turn" in Laramie, WY in early October. The folks at the University of Wyoming did an awesome job organizing and creating an edifying and fun event, including panel discussions, demos in printmaking techniques, open portfolio sessions, exhibitions throughout Laramie, vendor fair, and opportunities to meet other printmaking folks including students, professors, independent artists, etc. Best parts of the conference were how friendly and welcoming everyone was, catching up with former ICPC member Louise Fisher (aw!) who is now getting an MFA in printmaking at Arizona State, and getting to see SO.MANY.PRINTS both at the University of Wyoming and a downtown gallery walk that had over a dozen print exhibitions on display(!) I was on two panels: Complex Utopias: Dialogues With Community Print Shops (with folks from Art Gym Denver (artgymdenver.com ), Saltgrass Printmakers (Salt Lake City http://www.saltgrassprintmakers.org/), and Second State Press (Philadelphia http://www.secondstatepress.org/)) & Exploring Together: The Art of Collaborative Books (with 5 other artists -- we all shared a variety of approaches to and outcomes of our collaborative bookmaking practices) You can learn more about MAPC here: https://midamericaprintcouncil.org/ and check out photos from the conference here: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/mapc2018/
The next MAPC conference will be in 2020 at Kent State University in Ohio. Wanna carpool?
