Jenny Gringer Makes a Very Important Decision

Once a year, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has a staff art show. And for the Iowa City newb, you should know that they have constantly rotating art shows, in every public building, so you should definitely go check 'em out. But anyway, for the staff art show, faculty and volunteers are invited to submit one piece. The caveat: no "inappropriate" work allowed. Humph!

Well, after reviewing her work, Jenny was able to rule out a good handful of pieces. Namely:

1) Everything with bad words,
2) All political pieces,
3) Things with too many words (showcasing the words, not her art),
4) Pieces that weren’t her regular style,
5) Things she was bored with, and
6) Pieces that really never should have been put in frames.

And what did she have left after all that weeding? A 3-block color print of a chicken.

The frame inside the piece originally held print saying, “Honey Badger Don’t Give a Shit,” which, obviously, she had to remove for this run.

So, what to put back in the frame? A baby egg? A Salvador Dali print? Jenny had fifteen hours to decide, execute, mat, frame, price, and submit her piece. It was kind of stressful.

But after deliberating carefully for a number of hours, she finally made the very important decision.

"Outside Chicken Comes In" is the final name for her piece, and here it is framed, matted, and ready to fly! The piece is now on display now through August 30th in the Patient and Visitor Activities Center Gallery I (Level 8, by Elevator F). Check it out! And while you're at it, follow Jenny on Instagram @jgringer for the "inappropriate" stuff.
